PerkinElmer Launches 19 New Products at Society for Biomolecular Screening 'SBS' Conference.

ORLANDO, Florida -- New products focus on live cell screening, ADME/Tox, and Emerging Therapeutic Targets

PerkinElmer, Inc. (NYSE: PKI), a leading provider of drug discovery, life science research and analytical solutions, today announced that it will be exhibiting 19 new products at the Society for Biomolecular Screening (SBS) 10th Annual Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, September 11-15, Booth 600.

PerkinElmer's new products fall into three categories: Live cell screening and ADME/Tox, Reagent platforms and proprietary consumables, and Automation and detection. The showcased products include:

Live cell screening and ADME/Tox:

--CellLux(TM) uHTS Cellular Screening System: featuring patented fiber-optic imaging with integrated liquid handling for high-throughput live cell "inject and read" applications. The CellLux is ideal for ion channel screening, an increasingly important drug discovery application.

--CellEx(TM) Poly-D-lysine coated microplates: proprietary new technology to anchor live cells onto a microplate for robust cellular applications ... a perfect fit with the new CellLux.

--Cellular Workstation: fully integrated and automated workstation for conducting live cell screening, tying together PerkinElmer's detection, liquid handling, and chemistry technologies and creating a walk-away, easy-to-use solution for a variety of cellular applications.

--ATP-Lite(TM) One-step: a high-throughput live cell assay for evaluating compounds' toxic effects on cells. This easy-to-use, scalable approach allows customers to perform toxicity testing during primary screening, thus enabling the elimination of poor candidate compounds much earlier in the drug discovery process.

Reagent platforms and proprietary consumables:

--LANCE(TM) cAMP: a sensitive, robust, 1536-well capable cAMP assay, based upon PerkinElmer's proven LANCE(TM) TRF technology ... optimized for a wide range of PerkinElmer detection platforms.

--Easy-Lite(TM) Kinase: an antibody-free luminescence detection method addressing all kinase targets, saving customers precious time and money spent on sourcing and screening antibodies.

--LANCE Beta-Secretase: an optimized assay kit enabling customers to screen a key target related to Alzheimer's disease in a robust, high-throughput, cost-effective manner.

--New AlphaScreen(TM) protocols: highly sensitive, homogeneous uHTS assays for the increasingly important applications of Ubiquitin and Guanylate Cyclase screening.

--OptiPlate(TM) 384-HS: microplate specifically designed to reduce background interference for uHTS imaging assays... a perfect complement to the ViewLux uHTS imager.

--Image-Mix cocktail: proprietary, red-shifted liquid scintillation cocktail that enables customers to significantly increase throughput of laborious, slow radiometric assays.

--Four New GPCR Receptor and Ligands: key new offerings include Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide (GIP) and GPR8, thus continuing PerkinElmer's commitment to enabling novel GPCR target research.

Automation and detection:

--EnVision(TM) "Turbo" AlphaScreen capability: new technology enhancements double the power of current EnVision AlphaScreen detection, thus increasing throughput and sensitivity, as well as expanding applications.

--FlexDrop(TM) EX: new precision reagent dispenser for rapid dispensing of solvents, reagents, buffers and cells ... enables dispensing of 1-4 reagents in volumes from 200 nL to 2.0 mL, with dispense accuracy of less than or equal to 5%. The new EX model includes two stacker cassettes with capacity for up to 50 SBS-standard microplates for automated, walk-away processing.

--ViewLux(TM) uHTS software enhancements: significantly increases screening flexibility, expands data analysis capability, and improves fluorescence performance.

--ELISA Workstation: a fully integrated, walk-away workstation, automating traditionally labor-intensive, multi-step ELISA assays. The ELISA workstation utilizes application-specific protocols integrated with PerkinElmer detectors, washers, and dispensers, thus speeding up the process from sample preparation to results generation.

Along with highlighting its array of products at this year's conference, PerkinElmer will also present its 8th annual PerkinElmer Award for Innovation in HTS. This year's award will be presented to Dr. Steven A. Hofstadler of Ibis Therapeutics for his work in mass spectrometry focusing on characterizing microorganisms and noncovalent complexes between RNA and small drug-like molecules.
