:PTIX), a leading provider of high performance data communications and connectivity solutions for the workstation, server, and embedded markets, today announced two new controller level Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity products for the CompactPCI(R) platform.

The new PTI products are targeted primarily towards telecommunications applications where onboard application or protocol execution, port density, or performance are critical. PTI's new 6U form factor products include a Synchronous WAN I/O Adapter (Model CPC (1) (Central Processing Complex) An IBM mainframe that has two or more central processors (CPs) that share memory. It is the collection of processors, memory and I/O subsystems manufactured with a single serial number, typically all contained in one cabinet. 34X) which offers four or eight RS422, RS232 or V.35 ports for high speed connectivity to FRAD's, CSU/DSUs, and a Quad T1/E1 Interface (Model CPC380) which provides four fully channelized Refers to an architecture that transmits data in channels. It often refers to the 64 Kbps channels in T1 lines, which were originally developed to handle digitized voice streams (TDM). See TDM.  T1 or E1 ports for connectivity to telecom equipment such as switches or AIN nodes.

"All indicators have been pointing to the CompactPCI platform as the new standard platform for telecommunications applications," said John Grana grana /gra·na/ (gra´nah) dense green, chlorophyll-containing bodies in chloroplasts of plant cells. , vice president and general manager of Performance Technologies' controller products group. "We've already had significant interest in these products from potential telecommunications customers, as well as Ziatech, Force Computers, and V-I Computers, our CompactPCI vendor partners."

Performance Technologies latest CompactPCI products include:

CPC380 6U Quad T1/E1 Telecom Engine

PTI's CPC380 6U Quad T1/E1 Telecom Engine provides four fully channelized T1/E1 ports ideal for Frame Relay, SS7 or similar connections to telco switches, AIN nodes, or remote access servers. The CPC380 has dual 66MHz Motorola MPC (1) (Mobile PC) A handheld or laptop computer. See handheld computer, laptop computer and Ultra-Mobile PC.

(2) (MultiPath Channel) See multipath.
860MH PowerQUICC(tm) processors and includes integrated CSU/DSUs. The CPC380 includes up to 48MB DRAM and a 1MB Flash PROM for the downloading of WAN applications and protocols. The rear panel I/O CPC380 complies to the ECTF H.110 specification using the OKI H.100/H.110 interface device, and is hot swappable with the PLX PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

(2) (Peripheral Component Interconnect) The most widely used I/O bus (peripheral bus).
9054 bus master interface. The CPC380 provides a fully passive rear transition module to improve reliability and further facilitate hot swap functionality.

CPC34X 3U, 4 Port WAN Protocol Engine

The CPC34X is a 4 Port WAN Protocol Engine providing 4 or 8 high performance synchronous WAN I/O ports for interfacing to devices such as T1/E1 routers, CSU/DSU See DSU/CSU.

, Frame Relay access devices and high speed modems. Based on the Motorola MPC860MH PowerQUICC processor, the CPC34X will offer extensive processing power for onboard WAN applications or protocol execution. It carries a 16MB DRAM array and is capable of 2Mbps full duplex line speed simultaneously on all ports. The CPC34X is available in front or rear panel I/O configurations, and offers RS232, RS422, or V.35 electrical interfaces either on board with a passive rear transition module, or on the rear transition module for a mixing of electrical interfaces.

PTI's CompactPCI products fully support the Company's complete line of WAN protocol software. Protocols include Frame Relay, X.25, SS7, HDLC, Radar Receiver, Synchronous Bit Stream, Asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. The interval between transmitting A and B is not the same as between B and C. The ability to initiate a transmission at either end.  Data Transfer and DDCMP (Digital Data Communications Message Protocol) Digital's proprietary, synchronous data link protocol used in DECnet.

. Also supported is the ProtoKit(tm) development environment which allows customer specific protocols to be integrated with the PTI hardware.

Pricing and Availability

The CPC380 6U Quad T1/E1 Telecom Engine and the CPC34X 3U, 4 Port WAN Protocol Engine will be available in July. Additional products and enhancements will occur on these products, as well as the Company's other 3U WAN products, throughout the remainder of 1998, providing full support of the CompactPCI bus standard. Pricing for the CPC34X starts at $1695 for the 4 port RS422/RS232/V.35 model, and $2495 for the 8 port version. Pricing for the CPC380 starts at $3495 for a Quad T1/E1 model.
