Eugene Symphonic Band

goes pops next Sunday

The Eugene Symphonic Band will play music from movies and Broadway shows at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Washburne Park, Agate Street and 20th Avenue.

The hourlong program will include selections from John Williams' score for "The Cowboys," W.A. Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," George Gershwin's "Strike Up the Band," Franz Lehar's "The Merry Widow merry widow

Spotlight Theatre plans

benefit concert, dinner

Broadway and London star John Barrowman will be featured at a fund-raising concert and dinner for Spotlight Theatre at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers Communications, 2975 Chad Drive.

A busy performer, Barrowman has had leading roles in productions of "Anything Goes," "Beauty and the Beast Beauty and the Beast is a traditional fairy tale (type 425C -- search for a lost husband -- in the Aarne-Thompson classification).
