Peregrine Semiconductor Signs Process Technology Contract With U.S. Defense Microelectronics Activity.
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2001
Peregrine's Ultra-Thin-Silicon (UTSi(R)) CMOS Technology Selected by
DMEA to Develop Rad-Hard Devices
Peregrine Semiconductor's leading edge, high performance communications integrated circuit technology has been selected by the U.S. Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) to supply advanced process technology for radiation hardened integrated circuits.
Under the terms of the $4.8 million contract, DMEA officials are asking Peregrine to develop, implement and demonstrate a sub-micron radiation-hardened ultra-thin silicon on sapphire semiconductor manufacturing process for use within the DMEA Flexible Foundry in Sacramento.
"Peregrine has a long history of supplying this market using our UTSi technology, and DMEA's selection of the SOS technology will only add to the growing acceptance of this process as a leading technology for the rad- hard space market," said Dr. Stav Prodromou, president and CEO of Peregrine Semiconductor. "UTSi allows us to integrate advanced communications functions and complex digital on the same device, making it ideal for RF communications devices. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the DMEA organization as they move the technology into their manufacturing operation."
Peregrine supplies standard PLLs and other communications components to the rad-hard market today with many of their commercial products being migrated to rad-hard versions as the market demands. They also offer foundry design services to select customers in the space and defense market.
