Career Moves of Utah's Decision Makers

Following a national search, LARRY S. SMITH, chief financial officer of KUED Channel 7, was named general manager of KUED. He succeeds Fred Esplin, who was recently named vice president of university relations for the University of Utah The University of Utah (also The U or the U of U or the UU), located in Salt Lake City, is the flagship public research university in the state of Utah, and one of 10 institutions that make up the Utah System of Higher Education. . Smith had served as interim manager for the past year, in addition to his roles as chief financial officer and associate director of the Utah Education Network The Utah Education Network (UEN) is a not-for-profit consortium of higher and public education, libraries, state government and business. UEN’s high speed computer network connects Utah colleges and universities as well as the state’s school districts and libraries. . He began his 22-year career in public television in 1977 as chief accountant for KUED. His experience also includes the private sector, where he has worked with small businesses and served as manager of operations at Continental Bank in Salt Lake City.

, RLA, joined the Salt Lake City office of Carol H. Johnson Associates Inc., a landscape architecture and environmental planning firm. As an associate at CRJA, Crook's design focus is on municipal and private work with an emphasis on sustainable design, reclamation and historic preservation. She is currently working on the Edith Bowen School at Utah State University Utah State University, mainly at Logan; coeducational; land-grant and state supported; chartered 1888, opened 1890. It publishes Utah Science, Western Historical Quarterly, and Western American Literary Journal. , Sandy City Cemetery and several Deer Valley residences.

ANDREA PACKER joined Publicis Dialog as a senior account executive in its public relations division. She brings eight years of public relations experience in corporate communications and media relations. Packer comes to Publicis from the Utah Department of Transportation, where she worked for six years as public information officer, coordinating the communications and media relations program for Utah's largest state agency. A Salt Lake City native, Packer graduated from Brigham Young University Brigham Young University, at Provo, Utah; Latter-Day Saints; coeducational; opened as an academy in 1875 and became a university in 1903. It is noted for its law and business schools.  in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications! Public Relations.

Midvale resident KENNETH D. REBER, a financial professional for the member companies of the MONY MONY Mutual of New York (Insurance - Syracuse, NY)  group, was recently recognized as one of the company's top financial professionals nationwide as a recipient of MONY's prestigious Top Club Award. The award marks a special milestone in Reber's career -- it was the 25th time he was honored by the company for his outstanding professional performance.

PHYLLIS DOMM was appointed by Intermountain Health Care as vice president of human resources. Domm comes to IHC from Medstar Health in Baltimore/Washington, where she was vice president of human resources. Previously, she was senior vice president of Healthcare Operations at Intracostal Health Systems in Florida. Domm has also worked as a consultant with international management firms and co-founded a smaller consulting firm specializing in managed care.

The consulting engineering firm of Van Boerum & Frank Associates appointed BEN L. DAVIS Davis, city (1990 pop. 46,209), Yolo co., central Calif.; settled in the 1850s, inc. 1917. It is an education center with light industry; machinery, processed foods, and computer equipment are produced. The extensive Univ.  as a new associate. Davis has been with VBFA for more than seven years. He is an expert in designing schools, hospitals, theaters, sports & recreational facilities, and hotels. Davis also developed an HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free  software program that automates the design process.

 CAPPEL was promoted to director of conferences and catering. Cappel, a certified meeting professional, will now oversee all conference service revenue and administrative staff operations. She began her career at the resort as the administrative assistant to the Cliff Lodge rooms division manager.

Zions Bank senior vice president ROBERT ANDERSON was appointed president of the Utah Community Reinvestment Corporation. For the past year, Anderson has served as the vice chair of the UCRC UCRC University Cooperative Research Center

Stantec Consulting, a full-service engineering firm, recently hired two marketers to increase client satisfaction and community relations. KATHLEEN BINGHAM joins the firm as marketing manager with responsibilities for developing and leading the firm's marketing department. Bingham has launched and directed new business development divisions, locally and nationally, for Franklin Covey Company, Columbia/HCA and Intermountain Health Care. She also developed Protocol Services Inc., a marketing company that conceived the Jazz 100 Club for the Utah Jazz. ALICIA MARCIS was hired as communications coordinator. Marcis is responsible for existing client relations, as well as internal and external public relations and communication efforts. Marcis has seven years of marketing experience, with over four years of experience in the A/E/C A/E/C Architect/Engineer/Contractor  industry. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas.

The international law firm of Holme Roberts & Owen announced that PAUL T. MOXLEY was named an officer of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. He will become president of the conference in four years. The NCBP is the voice of state and local bar associations in the United States and is an important liason with the American Bar Association American Bar Association (ABA), voluntary organization of lawyers admitted to the bar of any state. Founded (1878) largely through the efforts of the Connecticut Bar Association, it is devoted to improving the administration of justice, seeking uniformity of law . Moxley is the first lawyer from Utah to hold this position.

As vice president of marketing, Hermann will focus on building and extending the Fonix brand and heading the company's overall marketing strategy.
