According to AfterGlow managing director Arthur "Skip" Henderson, there are several areas critical to a successful photoluminescent installation.

Project Management: Installation labor will account for 60-70 percent of the cost of an installation, and will likely determine how long the product lasts. Quality contractors should be able to provide you with a comprehensive plan for how the job will be handled, as well as a fixed price.

Type of Construction: The materials the stairwell is made of determine the product requirements. Different products are right for different environments.

Surface Preparation: No matter what product is selected, surface preparation is essential. Factors that need to be considered include cleanliness, profile, and compatibility with the adhesive to be used.

Product Characteristics: Photoluminescent products come in many forms and each has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Partner with an experienced contractor who is knowledgeable and free to select the correct material for your particular applications.

Light Level: A photoluminescent system requires ambient lighting to be effective. Both the type of light and the intensity dictate how well any photoluminescent product will perform.

Adhesive Hazard: Some long-lasting, durable photoluminescent systems are secured with powerful adhesives that can emit volatile organic compounds volatile organic compound Environment Any toxic cabon-based (organic) substance that easily become vapors or gases–eg, solvents–paint thinners, lacquer thinner, degreasers, dry cleaning fluids . Contractor Reputation: Building managers and owners are going to make a significant investment and should be sure they're getting their money's worth. Knowing how long the contractor has been in business, getting referrals, ensuring ISO (1) See ISO speed.

certification and seeing their quality control process are all important steps.

"Paying proper attention to these issues will save time and money," Henderson says. "Selecting a qualified contractor with product and engineering expertise as well as a comprehensive approach to project management is the best way to ensure a quality installation."

I manage a property in ny and a certain company did the install for me( no name but part of this article) did the job, we are currently replacing the product and the person who made these statements is no longer with that firm and the firm gave me the run around and a new body to speak to me but, he kept blaming somebody that I never dealt with and the final outcome was they blamed the manufacture and the manufacture blamed the install company. What was said in the above letter "reliable contractor" this contractor went bankrupt and I have to repay another firm to replace it. The laugh of this whole story is the contractor went bankrupt and ran for cover, but they install the Pentagon funny REMEMBER THE STORY THE PENTAGON PAID $ 340.00 FOR A HAMMER ON THAT NOTE HOW GOOD IS THE REFRENCE.

Nick
