PennWell acquires dental continuing education company.

PennWell Corp. (Tulsa, OK) has acquired the publishing and continuing education business of the Academy of Dental Therapeutics and Stomatology and Odontos World Media (ADTS; Santa Monica, CA) from the company's founder and president, Michael Florman. No terms of the deal were given. Established in 1998, ADTS is a provider of continuing education publications and courses for the dental profession and is authorized by the American Dental Association to provide continuing education credits to dentists, hygienists and dental assistants in the U.S. ADTS publishes the "Dental Continuing Education Digest" a title which offers continuing education credits for dental clinicians and carries articles on such topics as cosmetics and restoratives, endodontics, infection control, orthodontics, periodontology, lasers, and hygiene, among others. The company also maintains a library of tests available in print or online and publishes monthly courses in dental publications including PennWell's "Dental Economics" and "RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist)."

PennWell president Robert Biolchini said "we were looking for the right opportunity to provide consistent continuing medical education services to our 175,000 readers across PennWell's dental properties." "The deal is "an exceptional fit," he said. Besides the two titles mentioned above, PennWell's Dental Group includes "Woman Dentist Journal," "Dental Equipment & Materials" and "Grand Rounds in Oral Systemic Medicine." Overall, PennWell publishes 75 print and online magazines and newsletters in the oil and gas, electric power, water, environmental, electronics, contamination control, fiber optics, fire and emergency, nanotechnology and dental fields.
