Peloria Technology Corp. announces new Mail Scout(TM) rule server for cc:Mail; smart, automatic responses to messages and more; virtual agents on demand.

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 1994--Peloria Technology Corp. announces new rule-server software that operates on cc:Mail inbox messages.

The rule server software runs on its own PC, on the same LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  as a cc:Mail post office. It inspects inbox messages for local cc:Mail users and, depending on the instructions in its rule set, responds appropriately to those messages that meet the conditions proscribed PROSCRIBED, civil law. Among the Romans, a man was said to be proscribed when a reward was offered for his head; but the term was more usually applied to those who were sentenced to some punishment which carried with it the consequences of civil death. New Mail Scout(TM) for cc:Mail is available (ships late January 1995) for $50 per user for 1-19 users, $25 per user for 20-99 users, $17.50 per user for 100-999 users, $15 per user for 1,000 or more users or as a negotiated site license (all prices suggested U.S. resale at participating resellers; inquiries are invited).

The Mail Scout rule server also includes free Windows client software for creating and submitting rules to the server. Its robust security safeguards require a password before a submitted rule will be accepted, to prevent a user from affecting another's inbox messages. The Windows client can also control which available rules will be active, which inactive in·ac·tive

Each rule performs as one or more mail agents, responding to specified conditions in proscribed ways. This makes Mail Scout rules more powerful than the simple agents of earlier-generation e-mail. A sophisticated vacation rule, for example, can invisibly forward copies of incoming messages to a personal remote address, send an explanatory ex·plan·a·to·ry

Mail Scout rules can send messages out on a regular schedule, automatically alert people to upcoming occasions, tattle on a message that has not received a reply by a stated deadline, act as a file librarian See librarian.  and more. And Mail Scout can take advantage of every gateway, router router

Users can create Mail Scout rules using an easy Windows buttons-and-options screen. They can fill in exact text that the ``From:'' line or ``Subject:'' line or message body should (or should not) include for example, for that specific rule to trigger. These trigger attributes can involve a time or a date, whether or not a message calls for a receipt, the priority of the incoming message, whether the recipient is primary or a ``cc:'', or any of several other criteria. No matter how complicated the rule, the user deals with a logical and intuitive interface.
