PeerDirect Inc. Ships PeerDirect Replication Engine Version 4.0.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1999--

PeerDirect Inc. announced today on-time shipment and immediate availability of Version 4.0 of its industry-leading data replication and synchronization (1) See synchronous and synchronous transmission.

(2) Ensuring that two sets of data are always the same. See data synchronization.

(3) Keeping time-of-day clocks in two devices set to the same time. See NTP.
software, PeerDirect Replication Engine (PDRE PDRE Pulse Detonation Rocket Engine ).

Version 4.0, a next generation evolution of PDRE, delivers many customer-driven enhancements, including the ability to replicate any number of databases from a single workstation, and completely customizable event handling. These improvements, along with support for a larger number of databases, build upon what is already the most reliable, flexible, and easiest-to-use replication solution available today.

This reliability, flexibility, and ease-of-use make PDRE the only choice to solve any enterprise replication need. Both Corel Corp. and Pervasive Inc. have chosen PDRE to be their replication solution. As the only product that has been licensed by database vendors, PeerDirect Replication Engine is becoming the industry-standard data replication solution. "Database vendors are choosing PeerDirect Replication Engine because of its unmatched feature set," said Larry Palmer, PeerDirect Inc. President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , "The new features offered in Version 4.0 further distinguish PDRE as the leading replication solution available for enterprises, providing the lowest total cost-of-ownership of any replication product on the market today."

Version 4.0 features include:

Single-Engine Replication

It is now possible to replicate any number of databases and platforms from a single workstation. Single-engine replication provides users a zero-footprint replication solution on all platforms, including handhelds, and simplifies the management and deployment of replication networks.

Replication Engine Service

PDRE can now run as a Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. (R) service, enhancing the reliability of replication networks and allowing replication to run under a user-defined schedule without the need to have a user logged on to the machine.

Remote Administration Protocol

A TCP/IP-based protocol has been added to allow secure remote access and control of a PeerDirect replication environment, whether via a LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  or the Internet.

Fully Customizable Event Notification Event notification is a term used in conjunction with communications software for linking applications that generate small messages (the "events") to applications that monitor the associated conditions and may take actions triggered by events.

This feature provides users the ability to receive various types of event notifications and completely customize the resulting activities, such as sending an e-mail when a replication session ends.

Ease-of-Use Enhancements

A number of enhancements have been made to the PeerDirect Replication Designer that make it easier than ever to configure how data is replicated.

Support for Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise See ASE.

PeerDirect has added Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) A relational DBMS from Sybase that runs on Windows NT/2000, Linux and a variety of Unix platforms. PDRE Version 4.0 is available on Windows NT, Windows 98, and Windows 95 platforms, and can also replicate databases residing on any platform, including UNIX UNIX
