) has completed the acquisition of certain assets of Border Neonatal Associates, a physician group practice that operates two neonatal intensive care units in El Paso El Paso (ĕl pă`sō), city (1990 pop. 515,342), seat of El Paso co., extreme W Tex., on the Rio Grande opposite Juárez, Mex.; inc. 1873. , Texas. This acquisition brings the number of NICUs served by Pediatrix in El Paso, Texas to four.

The units operated by Border Neonatal generated approximately 6,000 NICU NICU

 patient days during 1997. Including these acquired units, Pediatrix operates a total of 24 NICUs in the state of Texas, including Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth and Houston.

Separately, Pediatrix announced that it was awarded a contract by one of its existing hospital clients in Wichita, Kansas to operate another NICU that was previously part of a separate hospital system. This unit generated approximately 1,000 patient days in 1997.

Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc., is the nation's largest provider of physician management services to hospital-based NICUs. During 1997, Pediatrix added a total of 31 NICUs through a combination of internal marketing efforts and acquisitions. The company provides services to 108 NICUs, eight PICUs and three pediatrics departments nationwide and employs or contracts with approximately 275 physicians.
