Founded in 1886, The Royal Conservatory of Music is widely recognized as one of the most significant music institutions in Canada. RCM Examinations is the division of The Royal Conservatory of Music dedicated to administering the examinations based on the RCM curriculum. RCM Examinations conducts more than 100,000 music examinations per year in more than 300 communities through a network of local centers. The College of Examiners comprises more than 350 distinguished teachers and performers.

This full-day event served the dual purpose of professional development for members of the RCME College of Examiners, while at the same time fulfilling the role of the traditional "Pedagogy Saturday" and "Professional Studio Saturday" preceding MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association
MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee)
 conferences.

The theme of the day, "Exploring Evaluation and Assessment" was chosen because it impacts not only the work of professional examiners and adjudicators, but in fact every studio teacher. The sessions were designed to provide opportunities for teachers to explore a wide range of approaches to inspiring, motivating and evaluating their students.

The program was prepared by an RCME Planning Committee planning committee n (in local government) → comité m de planificación  chaired by Janet Lopinski, chief examiner The Chief Examiner was a fictional character, an alien appearing in the Marvel Comics universe. It would study a superhuman, often by forcing them to run through some sort of deathtrap scenario, then used the collected data to create duplicates of the superhuman being.  emeritus, and consisting of Chief Examiners Christopher Kowal, Joe Ringhofer and Peteris Zarins, along with members of RCME administrative staff.

The morning consisted of two plenary sessions: "Unwrapping Assessment: Powerful Tools for Student Progress" followed by "Before and After: What to Listen for in Assessing our Students." In the afternoon a wide variety of break-out sessions were offered, serving to familiarize teachers with the RCM Examinations system, but at the same time focusing on musicianship skills essential for teachers and students.
