Pearson School Systems, a division of Pearson Education Pearson Education is an international publisher of textbooks and other educational material, such as multimedia learning tools. Pearson Education is part of Pearson PLC. It is headquartered in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.  (Upper Saddle River Saddle River may refer to:

, NJ), has acquired altonaEd (West Point, NE), producers of the School Information & Performance System (SIPS). No terms of the deal were given.

SIPS web-based technology is an administrative tool integrating the various aspects of student management. A database provides administrators, teachers and parents with access to current attendance, grading and discipline information. Pearson said the purchase of altonaEd supports its strategy of providing services that enable educators to use student information to assess performance, diagnose diagnose /di·ag·nose/ (di´ag-nos) to identify or recognize a disease.

In related news, Pearson division Interactive Data Corp. (Bedford, MA), a provider of securities pricing and financial information, has acquired FutureSource LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

LLC - Logical Link Control
 (Lombard, IL), a provider of real-time futures, commodities and foreign exchange market information, for $18 million in cash. The acquired company supplies futures, options and cash price data, news and charting analysis tools through a variety of platforms targeted to traders, brokers and risk managers. FutureSource had 2003 revenues of $20.2 million while expenses totaled $18.1 million.
