Peace work.

I want to commend Robert F. Keeler Keel´er

for his excellent reflections on Pax Christi Pax Christi is an international Catholic peace movement. History
Pax Christi was established in France in 1945 as a reconciliation work between the French and the Germans after the military occupation during World War II. As of 2007, it exists in more than 60 countries.
USA in the August cover story, "Who's working for peace now?"

I have served as bishop-president of Pax Christi USA for many years. We are a diverse group. Yet I marvel at the unity among our membership because of a shared commitment to the gospel of nonviolence.

Pax Christi members bring a broad base of sensitivity to violence in its many forms. This shapes Pax Christi into a truly prolife organization that puts into practice the seamless garment The phrase "seamless garment" refers to the seamless robe of Jesus, which the Gospel of John describes Jesus as having worn to his crucifixion.

In 1971, Roman Catholic pacifist Eileen Egan used St. John the Apostle's phrase to describe a holistic reverence for life.
 theory.

Pax Christi works for an end to racism and discrimination in both church and society; we proclaim the need for drastic reductions in the defense budget; we defend the unborn, the immigrant, the prisoner on death row, and the elderly at death's door.

Pax Christi seeks peace by working to eradicate all threats to the sanctity of human life.

One of the reasons I left the church many years ago was the continued hypocrisy in both the lay and clerical ranks.

I lay no claim to sainthood, but when I make a vow to act in a certain manner or to adhere to adhere to

certain principles, I consider that vow sacred and will not break it.

I simply became fed up with hearing people--priests, nuns, and lay alike--preach tolerance, love thy neighbor, follow the teachings of Christ, etc., and then refusing to live up to those ideals. A typical example is the continual citing of the Berrigans as if they were objects of worship. The Berrigans are convicted felons, period. They are not acting as Christ taught but, instead, are using their sacred ordained or·dain

To have to read about them in Keeler's article in a magazine that portrays itself as speaking for all U.S. Catholics is insulting. These anti-military zealots Zealots (zĕl`əts), Jewish faction traced back to the revolt of the Maccabees (2d cent. B.C.).
