Peace awards (Peace activists recognized).


Dr. Hannah Newcombe is the 1997 recipient of the Pearson Peace Medal. The United Nations Association in Canada The United Nations Association in Canada engages the Canadian public in the work of the United Nations and the critical international issues which face us all.

), presented the medal to Dr. Newcombe in a December 10th ceremony (see photo) celebrating her life-long commitment to working for peace. In addition to her work with the Peace Research Institute Dundas, Dr. Newcombe has been a member of the Board of Project Ploughshares

 organizations also present annual Peace Medals in a number of communities across Canada to recognise the activities of community members who have been active in peace work. Congratulations are in order for the following Ploughshares members who have been recognized for their dedication and energy in pursuing the cause of peace:

Sheila Nabigon Howlett and Floyd Howlett from Ploughshares Kawartha, who were awarded the 1997 Peterborough YMCA Peace Medals and a commemorative plaque; and Project Peacemakers member Bev Ridd, who received the 1997 Winnipeg YM/YWCA Peace Medal.
