Pay and Pension Commission reviews proposals.

ISLAMABAD, July 16, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- The Pay and Pension Commission reviewed various proposals for revision of pay and pension structure as the two-day meetings of the Commission concluded here Thursday. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ishrat Hussain. The meeting reviewed tentative proposals prepared for revision of pay structure and pension of government employees. The Commission decided that at next stage consultations would be held with the provincial governments and the Committee of Federal Secretaries. One of the major proposals discussed by the Commission was to take the teachers, health workers, judiciary and police out of the unified pay scales so that the public institutions are able to attract, retain and motivate best talent in these professions for the larger socio-economic development of the country. This proposal will now be discussed with the provincial governments before its finalization. The Commission also formed various sub-committees to finalize the recommendations on the modalities of proposed pay and pension reforms. During the meeting, presentations on the existing position of pay, allowances and pension to various categories of government employees at the federal as well as provincial levels were made by the MAG, AGPR, DG (PIFRA) and Federal and Provincial Finance Ministries. It was decided that next meeting of the Commission will be held in Islamabad on August 12-13, 2009.
