Pavilion Technologies Inc. (Pavilion), a leading provider of real-time enterprise optimization solutions, today announced a new software application that will help energy companies improve the performance of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems.

With Pavilion's SCR optimization software, energy companies will reduce maintenance costs, increase the life span of the catalyst, reduce ammonia use by as much as 20% and create a higher quality ash by-product.

Pavilion's SCR optimization solution is based on Power Perfecter, Pavilion's universal, non-linear control and optimization solution. Conventional SCR control systems rely on historical NOx levels based on load, but do not account for the unique operating conditions of each facility, such as excess air, burner tilts, and mills in service.

In addition, the 3-5 minute delay in the NOx signal from stack to SCR may result in an inappropriate ammonia injection. The Pavilion SCR optimization solution uses real-time data from the SCR system to create prediction models of SCR performance based on flue gas temperature, flue gas flow, NOx and ammonia use.

Armed with a precise performance model, Pavilion's Power Perfecter automatically manipulates multiple variables, including reagent nozzle pressure, flow control, nozzle selection and online molarity control. Unlike rigid rule-based software models, Pavilion's Power Perfecter automatically optimizes performance in real-time (as frequently as every 10 seconds) allowing for tighter control, more efficiency and ultimately reduced SCR operating and maintenance costs.
