Paul Hensley.

In a journal he kept for a high school English class, Paul Hensley wrote that his goal was to be a millionaire by age 35. While it's taking him a little longer to attain that goal, he says he's well on his way--by living frugally and investing wisely. Also, over the past 25 years, his definition of "wealthy" has changed. For him, the true measure of wealth is showing discipline in your life, helping others and making and maintaining friendships and your health.

Leisure: I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids; yard work; landscaping; gardening; road biking (I have ridden in the Multiple Sclerosis Society's 150-mile "Bike to the Beach Ride" from San Antonio to Corpus Christi for three years); basketball (recently retired due to broken feet!); golf (I'm a duffer, but will get better the more I focus on it); and volunteering with charitable organizations.

Time Management: I try to keep organized by using my BlackBerry. My wife and I synchronize our calendars. She keeps the "master," so if it isn't in her calendar, it's not going to happen!

At work, I am in lots of meetings, so I try to keep a balance with my staff; sometimes I have to close my office door to "clean up loose ends."

Stress Management: I don't get that stressed out (maybe my wife wouldn't agree!), but I think humor helps control stress. Also, I enjoy a good bike ride after a long day at the office.

Recently Read Book: Leadership and Self-Deception--Getting Out of the Box, by The Arbinger Institute. It makes one think about others before yourself and how we can "betray" ourselves into believing that we are more important than others. It is truly a life-changing book.

What's the best advice you've ever received? Right out of college, a mentor told me: "Work hard, be reliable, take on the 'dirty' jobs with as much fervor as the 'sexy' jobs, and spend less than you make so you can save for a rainy day."

Favorite Job/s: My current job, because we have had a tremendous growth rate. Growth is always challenging, but it beats the alternative.

Favorite Deal: The most rewarding and interesting deal was at Holt Cat in the 2002 acquisition of the North Texas dealership territory for Caterpillar from Darr Equipment Co. It took our company into a whole new league in terms of operations, and I can't begin to describe how much I learned about the business during the due diligence period and the six months following the acquisition.

I first saw the quote on a wall in the San Antonio Spurs' locker room. It was hung by Coach Gregg Popovich, and speaks of determination and discipline.
