Pat's linens.Laura Ashley Holdings recently turned to television evangelist evangelist (ĭvăn`jəlĭst) [Gr.,=Gospel], title given to saints Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The four evangelists are often symbolized respectively by a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle, on the basis of Rev. 4.6–10. and Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson to help cure poor sales. The British home-furnishings retailer named Robertson to its board as a nonexecutive director. The announcement was made January 21, the same day CEO Victoria Egan resigned after dismal Christmas sales. What does Robertson have to offer the company best known for its floral-print bedding? According to Laura Ashley, the "noted media pioneer, educator, philanthropist, and religious broadcaster" owns about 2 million shares and offers an understanding of the North American consumer market, where sales have plummeted in recent years. In June, Robertson's knowledge of North American weather patterns and biblical teachings led him to erroneously predict a hurricane would strike Orlando, Fla., as retribution for Gay Days at Walt Disney World and the hoisting of rainbow flags along city streets. |
