Passport Corporation Incorporates Tibco's Push Technology.

PARAMUS, N.J.,--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1997--

Passport IntRprise An object-oriented client/server development system from Passport Corporation, Montvale, NJ (www.passportcorp.com) that supports Windows, OS/2, Motif and Java clients, VAXes, Unix servers and all the major SQL databases.  Integrates Advanced Publish/Subscribe Messaging

Software for Dramatic Reduction in Network Traffic

Passport Corporation announced today that the company's industry-leading application development environment, Passport IntRprise, now offers support for TIBCO's suite of publish/subscribe and multicast technologies. This integration couples Passport's tool suite for developing and deploying multi-tier client/server and Internet/Intranet applications with TIBCO's expertise in implementing enterprise push computing capabilities.

"Passport customers will now be able to expand their use of Passport IntRprise to broadcast information across the public Internet and private networks," states Richard Ramsdell, president of Passport Corporation. "The integration of Passport and TIBCO TIBCO The Information Bus Company  technologies will result in applications that represent the most up-to-date business functionality, dramatically increasing the value of information distributed throughout the enterprise."

Passport's open middleware interface is designed to fully integrate with various middleware products, including TIBCO's Message Oriented Middleware (MOM). TIBCO's software uses publish/subscribe and reliable multicast technologies to free up network bandwidth by sending a message only once to multiple users, rather than multiple copies simultaneously. This enables event-driven information exchange among distributed applications across the enterprise, allowing users to receive information immediately as an "event" happens, such as a financial transaction or industrial process change, without having to request information or knowing where the information resides.

An example of a successful integration of Passport and TIBCO technology is Mobil Corporation's Supply Trading and Transportation (ST&T) worldwide petrol trading system The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.

known as Genesys. Mobil's ST&T Group was previously running on six separate mainframe systems; the goal of Genesys was to develop a supply and trading management system that would help Mobil's traders, schedulers, accountants and administrators manage the company's global business in real-time. Passport IntRprise was chosen by Mobil because of its productivity, flexibility, and integration capabilities.
