Pasadena: where an affordable meeting is an extraordinary meeting.


Pasadena was founded in 1874 by a group of midwesterners escaping from cold winter weather. By the turn-of-the century, the city was a winter playground for the rich and famous mostly from New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 and Chicago. With Pasadena's recent enhancement of its accommodations, meeting facilities, historical attractions and restaurants, many groups are discovering that a meeting in Pasadena is affordable while offering an extraordinary setting.

Located just nine miles Nine Miles is a reggae "band" started by Yoshiaki Manabe (真鍋吉明) of The Pillows. The name Nine Miles comes from the name of the town in which Bob Marley grew up in Jamaica.

The Pasadena Hilton Hotel located in downtown Pasadena just completed renovation on 191 rooms.

"We offer the newest guest rooms in Pasadena," said Harriett Lieberman, Hilton, director of sales. "Our guests will also experience a whole new look in the Lobby Bar slated for completion in March. Its name will change to the 'Sports Edition' complete with satellite television for special games in a newly-designed sports motif. The ballrooms are our next enhancement as part of our multimillion dollar renovation," she continued. The Pasadena Hilton's International Ballroom accommodates 900 people and fourteen conference rooms are available for smaller meetings.

Another popular downtown hotel is the Holiday Inn Pasadena.

. Guest room bathrooms are also undergoing a complete refurbishing." The Holiday Inn Pasadena offers 13,000 square-feet of meeting space located adjacent to the Pasadena Convention Center. Fifteen meeting and banquet rooms accommodate groups from six to 300 people.

Its Italian Renaissance design and elegance extends into the Gold Room, a setting for small meetings for up to 300 people.

The Castle Green, constructed as a grand hotel in 1898, received a restoration on its southern facade and two circular towers. Located in Old Pasadena, the structure today houses senior housing and apartments. Its ornate facade is often used in films.

The Colorado Street Bridge The Colorado Street Bridge is a historic concrete arch bridge in Pasadena, California, USA. Because it spans the Arroyo Seco, it is often incorrectly referred to in the press as the "Arroyo Seco Bridge".  re-opened on December 13, 1993 after a 33-month, $24.3-million reconstruction effort to meet current seismic design requirements. Free shuttle bus service was recently approved by the Pasadena City Council. A new $900,000 shuttle service will provide delegates meeting in Pasadena the opportunity to ride free to favorite shopping and dining areas near major hotels and the Pasadena Center. Six buses will travel up and down Lake Avenue and along Colorado Boulevard and Green Street.

Old Pasadena continues its expansion. One Colorado, a $90-million retail center in Old Pasadena opened Crate & Barrel, Gap, GapKids/Baby Gap, Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret, Armani Exchange, and Rizzoli Bookstores. Game Trends doubled its size and offers more than 500 games and toys at 36 W. Colorado in Old Pasadena. J Crew, the famous upscale catalog clothing company opened at Fair Oaks and Colorado with 9,200 square-feet.

South Lake Retail's Port'O'Call expanded into 8,500 square-feet in the old Silverwoods' building. Fifteen new stores opened in the South Lake Business District including Super Crown, Aaron Brothers, Starbuck's Coffee, and Williams-Sonoma.

A city with over 250 restaurants, Pasadena's dining choices are a masterful blend of elegance and simplicity. Openings in 1993 included Abiento featuring Italian cuisine at 110 S. Lake Avenue, Route 66 at 425 S. Fair Oaks, Little Ricky's serving Cuban and Mexican cuisine at 39 South Fair Oaks Blvd., McCormick & Schmick's fresh fish and seafood at Plaza Las Fuentes, Panda Express at South Lake, and Il Fornaio, and Cafe Santorini at One Colorado. Claude's French cuisine opened downtown.

Other restaurants soon to open are Twin Palms, owned by actor Kevin Costner, Sam Ho Bar B.Q., Audrey's, Chicago for Ribs, and Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant. A few of the groups who will be discovering Pasadena in the next few months include the following:
