Partnership pays for union, military. (Tramp, tramp, tramp ...).


A military partnership with a Jacksonville, Fla., longshoreman's union is paying big dividends when it comes to deployments.

The big winner is the U.S. Marine Corps Blount Island Command, which is the launching point for frequent deployments.

Union foremen served in advisory roles to the Marines during Maritime Prepositioning vessel loading and discharge operations.

The training experience was not only an enjoyable one for both the Marines and longshoremen, but also fostered teamwork (product, software, tool) Teamwork - A SASD tool from Sterling Software, formerly CADRE Technologies, which supports the Shlaer/Mellor Object-Oriented method and the Yourdon-DeMarco, Hatley-Pirbhai, Constantine and Buhr notations.  and pride between the two organizations.

The partnership took on renewed enhancement recently.

Marines and civilians of the command's Quality Assurance Automotive Section conducted driver training for longshoremen on the Marine Corp's new Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) or 7-Ton, is a six-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle used by the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy. It is designed to replace the old M900 series of tactical trucks, and was first fielded in 1998, after the , a 7 1/2-ton truck.

The vehicle has a central tire inflation system that allows for pressure adjustment in difficult terrain. The tire pressure adjustment is also beneficial when in areas of reduced clearance aboard ship.

The program included classroom instruction, hands-on operation and a road test.
