Partners in rap: rocketing from Wisconsin to The L Word, with thousands of MySpace fans, rapper God-Des and sultry-voiced She are primed for stardom.

When homo-hop--hip-hop music's thriving queer underground--finally crowns some mainstream superstars, don't be surprised if the new royals are God-Des and She God-Des and She are a lesbian hip hop duo from the United States.

God-Des has a voice and style similar to Da Brat, yet draws attention because of her controversial lyrics, similar to the shock value of Eminem.
. It's only been a little over two years since the self-described "white dyke Jewish rapper from Wisconsin" and her sultry-voiced sidekick The first popular popup program for DOS PCs, introduced by Borland in 1984. Now they're making funny, fierce music, saying what many gays only think. Says God-Des: "People [have always] loved that I had the guts to get up there and say, 'Yeah, I'm a dyke, and this is what I go through.'"

The two have definitely paid their dues--squeezing in recording sessions between day jobs and relentlessly touring the country so that God-Des, to quote one of their songs, can "be the rap president."

The "presidential campaign" heated up in 2004, when God-Des released her debut album, Reality. The collection commands attention not only because of its beats and lyrics but because God-Des raps about so many facets of gay life. That may be why the producers of The L Word invited God-Des and She to perform on March's season finale. The duo performed their new single "Lick lick

"Since The L Word," says She, "we keep hearing, 'I can't believe I didn't know about you!' It's unbelievable the love we've been getting." Response has been so strong, in fact, that She could quit her day job slicing meat in a dell in order to spend her time booking concert dates and sorting through the e-mails that barrage the pair's Web site and MySpace page.

Admirers have kept the video for their other new single--the slow jam "Love You Better"--at the top of the Logo channel's music countdown, and the duo is recording a new album. Meanwhile, they get the satisfaction of knowing they're making a difference. God-Des marvels, "We get kids telling us that even if they can't come out to their families, at least with our music they can get through the day."
