, community leader or a lover of dance, this book provides a good way to recognize the value of dance in and with education.

The first of two sections defines the depth and breadth of dance as a distinct body of knowledge by analyzing the cognitive, emotional and expressive aspects of the discipline. Here Hanna surveys options for providing dance education and gives a review of the types of programs available, notes research findings and addresses the benefits of dance. She discusses the role of dance education within the educational reform effort and talks frankly about who should teach dance in K-12 and in higher education.

In the second section of the book, Hanna describes how dance can support other learning, discusses the role of cultural diversity in dance education and focuses on other key issues challenging the field today. She examines dance as a career, describing what makes a good teacher and listing options for training and teacher preparation. It is a clear statement about the power and value of dance in education and provides a context for its evolution as a field.
