Parroty Interactive Launches PYST Special Edition; New Special Edition of PYST Includes a Module of Driven, a Sneak Peak Parody of the Eagerly Anticipated Riven -- Sequel to MYST.

LARKSPUR, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1997--Following the success of PYST, a CD-ROM parody of the best selling PC game in history, MYST, Parroty Interactive has released PYST Special Edition.

This new release features a sneak peak module of Driven, the parody of the yet to be released CD-ROM, Riven -- The Sequel to MYST, along with two bonus modules from other popular Parroty products.

"PYST was tremendously successful last Christmas and continue to sell well," said Rob Halligan, Palladium's vice president of marketing. "This success has created a unique opportunity to parody the highly anticipated Riven, sequel to MYST. And this new sneak peak module in PYST Special Edition is ironically available now, even before Riven."

The Driven module within PYST Special Edition depicts an amusement park for the movers and the shakers of the world. This new watering hole for the "in" crowd offers a hilarious look at the ever increasing hunger to "get ahead." Additionally featured on the CD-ROM are bonus game modules from Star Warped, a parody of Star Wars, the best selling trilogy in motion picture history, and The X-Fools, a paranoid paranormal parody of the hugely popular television series, The X-Files.

The Star Warped module, "Whack the Ewok," challenges players to knock those little fuzzy Star Wars creatures off their perches. And The X-Fools game, "Run Agent Run!" encourages players to navigate X-Files agents through one of four "bureaucratic mazes," eluding aliens and fictitious villains.

PYST first shipped in October of 1996 and has been a worldwide hit. Created by Peter Bergman, one of the founders of the Firesign Theatre, PYST offers the millions of people who have played MYST the chance to "get PYST" and experience the island in a whole new light.

The pristine scenery is gone -- so are the impossible puzzles and the New Age music. In their place is King Mattruss (played by John Goodman of Television's Roseanne) and his sons -- the Prince formerly known as Prince, and Prince Syrup -- along with a host of characters who never left. Garbage, graffiti and four million visitors trampling the island certainly takes its toll!

"This month marks the one year anniversary of Parroty Interactive, with PYST paving the way for our subsequent CD-ROM spoofs, Star Warped and The X-Fools," said Halligan. "This special edition CD-ROM is a celebration of the success of these products as well as an opportunity to poke fun at Riven, the upcoming sequel to MYST."

PYST is a hybrid CD-ROM, running on Windows 95 and 3.1 for PC-compatible computers and on both Macintosh and Power Macintosh systems. As an enhanced CD-ROM featuring Goodman singing the "Theme from PYST," the CD can also be played in audio CD players. Distributed by Mindscape, PYST Special Edition will be available at retail stores everywhere in October 1997 at an expected street price of $19.95.
