Paris Square named after Tunisian activist Said Bouziri.

TUNIS (TAP) - A Paris square named after Tunisian activist Said Bouziri will be inaugurated next June 23, by Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoe, the Paris City Hall said on its web site.

Born on June 4, 1947 in Tunis, Said Bouziri left for France in 1966 to pursue studies in economics in Lyons then in Paris.

In the aftermath of the May 1968 events, he engaged in the defence of Palestinians and immigrants, reads the text published last June 10 in the newsletter of the "Carrefour des Associations Parisiennes" (CAP) in tribute to the late.

The memory of the deceased will be celebrated for his "entire course, oriented to field action and marked by a constant sensitivity to the poor, including undocumented migrants," stresses CAP newsletter.

Said Bouziri is described as a "community activist" since he was founding member of several associations working in social, training and cultural fields.

He had been for several years active President of the Paris 18th section of the League of Human Rights.

An exhibition, reading of texts and testimonies are expected at the official opening of the Square named after Said Bouziri.

It will be attended by the family of the late, his friends and the Mayor of the Paris 18th, former Minister Daniel Vaillant.

One day after the death of the Tunisian militant, Bertrand Delanoe wrote in a statement, published June 24, 2009:

"I have learnt with great emotion the death of Said Bouziri. This tireless, generous, staunch and selfless campaigner for human dignity whom we will all miss... I knew his exceptional generosity and intelligence, his dedication and his intellectual and moral rigour rig·our
