Paris Las Vegas Casino Resort Reveals Entertainment Plans for Grand Opening and Beyond.

Grand-Opening Celebration Will Include Performances by

Stevie Wonder and French Superstars Michel Legrand,

Charles Aznavour and Line Renaud

Paris Las Vegas Casino Resort will commemorate its grand opening by holding a star-studded celebration on Sept. 1.

The event will feature an all-star list of French and American performers who will envelop guests in authentic Parisian atmosphere.

The festivities will commence with a medley of French songs by musician/conductor Michel Legrand. A multi-talented French musician with 150 musical scores to his credit, Legrand has received Oscars for his work on The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) and Yentl. His songs have been performed by such legends as Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Henry Mancini, Liza Minelli and Ray Charles.

The medley will be sung by Legrand and legendary French actress and Las Vegas favorite Line Renaud while Legrand leads a 35-piece orchestra. A star of international stage and screen for many years, Renaud also has been a consultant with Paris Las Vegas since its inception. Performed for a private audience at the base of the resort's massive Eiffel Tower, the concert also will be projected to the public via specially installed large screen video and sound equipment in front of the property.

Legrand and Renaud's performance will segue into a performance by French legend Charles Aznavour, whose career has included a Country Music Award as Best Composer and a place in the National Songwriters Hall of Fame. Legrand then will return to perform a medley of songs he has written for films, including "I Will Wait for You" from Summer of '42 and "Papa, Can You Hear Me" from Yentl.

Next, as a special preview to Notre Dame de Paris, the musical that is bypassing Broadway to open at Paris Las Vegas in January 2000, several members of the original cast will perform selected highlights from the show. A 21st-century pop/rock adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic French romance The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the French production of Notre Dame De Paris quickly became the most successful musical spectacle in French history, selling out in Europe and Canada, and winning the 1998 World Music Award. Upon the finale of the Notre Dame performance, guests will be dazzled by the gravity-defying feats of Project Bandaloop. Founded by Amelia Rudolph in 1991, the group will utilize dance, climbing, and rigging to transform the Eiffel Tower into a 500-foot vertical stage.

To close, Park Place Entertainment Chairman Arthur Goldberg and Paris Las Vegas President Paul V. Pusateri will invite guests and dignitaries to join them in a champagne toast marking the official opening of Paris Las Vegas Casino Resort. Following the toast, the evening's event will climax with highlights from Gershwin's An American In Paris, while a pyrotechnic grand finale, created by America's leading pyrotechnic specialists, Pyrospectaculars, illuminates the night sky.

Grand-opening day will begin with a mid-morning press conference featuring key Paris Las Vegas spokespersons, celebrity guests and other notables. The evening celebration will start with a gala party at 5 p.m., when arriving guests will be entertained by strolling French performers, jazz musicians, and artists as they become the first to explore the streets of Paris. In addition to the visual display, culinary artists will tempt guests' palates with a sampling of signature foods and beverages to be offered in the property's restaurants. These activities will serve as a preview to the evening's main entertainment, which will begin at 8 p.m. The property will open to the public at approximately 10 p.m.
