The HotWire Digital Subscriber Line system, which includes the HotWire 5100 and HotWire 8800 multiservices Digital Subscriber Line Access Mux (DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) A central office (CO) device for ADSL service that intermixes voice traffic and DSL traffic onto a customer's DSL line. It also separates incoming phone and data signals and directs them onto the appropriate carrier's network. See DSL. ), associated DSL customer premises equipment See CPE.  and advanced SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  network management, are targeted at the Network Service Providers (NSPs), Internet and Frame Relay Service Provider (ISPs/FRSPs) communities seeking to increase revenue opportunities through the deployment of high speed access services over DSL -- at a fraction of the cost of traditional private line access services.

Last month at ComNet '97, Paradyne's HotWire 5100 system won "Best of Show" and for the Intranet/Internet category in the New Product Achievement Competition -- sponsored by Computerworld. The HotWire 5100 system is the industry's first commercially shipping Rate Adaptive Digital Subscriber Line (RADSL See DSL. ) product based on Carrierless Amplitude and Phase (CAP) modulation technology and the first SNMP managed RADSL system, transmitting high-speed digital data and analog voice over a single copper wire phone line. Paradyne recently announced the use of HotWire products for two commercial service deployments: CADVision, an ISP (1) See in-system programmable.

The HotWire 5100 system delivers impressive 2.56 million bits per second (Mbps) speeds for high-bandwidth, low-cost, business-critical applications such as Internet/Intranet access, full-motion videoconferencing, high-definition graphics, shared white-boarding and dramatically improved data communications.

Paradyne's HotWire systems provide standards-based networking protocols on top of DSL technology to "supercharge" networking services. Leveraging a rich history in network management, Paradyne's HotWire 8800 DSLAM uses Paradyne's GUI-based SNMP management applications for HP, SUN and Windows environments providing a simple and easy way to manage very large networks.

9620 Frame Relay Access Unit:

Paradyne's 9620 Frame Relay Access Unit won the New Products Achievement Award (Carrier/WAN product category) sponsored by Computerworld for ComNet '97. The 9620 manages the complexities of Frame Relay networks while cutting network costs as much as half. Paradyne's online "savings calculator" (http://www.paradyne.com/frame) estimates potential savings for existing networks. Paradyne's 9620 is the first product of its kind to offer network managers permanent virtual circuit See PVC.

) level management, providing the same type of network management required on their leased-line networks, including: inband, non-disruptive troubleshooting and diagnostic capability.

The 9620 can optimize 56K access lines, replacing the need for some T1 line upgrades -- and saving an organization approximately $1,000 per month in upgrade costs. An application requiring 128K-256K of bandwidth such as telecommuting and Internet access can now be implemented over 56K circuits using the 9620. The 9620 FRAU is available immediately, and lists for $1,395.00.

Paradyne's CSU/DSU Products

Paradyne's 7610 DSU is the first of Paradyne's new 7000 series of products. List priced at $695, the 7610 is the industry's best buy, outperforming virtually every DSU in its price range. Initial orders for the product have exceeded projections. With an MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) The average time a component works without failure. It is the number of failures divided by the hours under observation.

Paradyne introduces the 3162 T1 CSU/DSU -- a competitively priced (list $1,995.00) reliable, SNMP-manageable access solution for T1 networks. The 3162 is Paradyne's latest release in the market-leading 3100 Series of T1 CSU/DSUs. It provides T1 and fractional-T1 access for two data ports plus a drop and insert In a multichannel transmission system, a drop and insert is a process that diverts (drops) a portion of the multiplexed aggregate signal at an intermediate point, and introduces (inserts) a different signal for subsequent transmission in the same position, e.g.  port at a price that meets or beats the competition's single-port with drop and insert product pricing. Standards-based and interoperable with any SNMP manager, the 3162 offers a host of NMS See NetWare Management System.  connectivity options including: inband; direct to local Network Manager; via local router; daisy chaining; via Ethernet LAN adapter; via Token Ring adapter A network adapter used in a Token Ring network. See network adapter. ; or dial-up via an external modem.

For these products, Paradyne offers a GUI SNMP application which runs on HP Openview and NetView AIX.

Paradyne's Reseller Programs

Paradyne markets its products through a variety of distribution channel and a select number of direct corporate relationships. Through its "Connect to Success" Reseller Programs, Paradyne offers multilevel programs that provide sales, marketing, and technical support to authorized Paradyne reseller partners. -0-
