Earl Hinz's Heavy Weather Tactics Using Sea Anchors & Drogues (0939837374, $TBA) appears in an updated second edition to probe the foundations of using sea anchors and drogues. Any sailor needs to know these basics, and Heavy Weather Tactics Using Sea Anchors & Drogues teaches everything needed to know about waves, deploying a sea anchor, and different designs. The 2005 commercial edition of the Nautical Almanac is out (0939837641, $24.95), and it's another winner: covering January 1, 2005 through January 1, 2006, it is a reference packed with nautical reference tables, from altitude adjustments to star charts, phases of the moon, and much more. Keep both of 'em handy on board.
