Paradigm project a design feat.

Meltzer/Mandl Architects, P.C. has had to overcome both design and zoning challenges to create the unique high-end residential Paradigm Building at 146-148 West 22nd Street, in a largely commercial Chelsea neighborhood.

Because it is sandwiched into just 40 feet of frontage between two 1890s buildings, the 12-story, 33,000 s/f condominium condominium

Marvin H. Meltzer Vice President of Meltzer/ Mandl Architects and principal designer on the project, first planned to combine color, curves and aluminum panels for the site to provide dramatic contrast to the commercial tone of the neighborhood.

As the design evolved, Meltzer decided to create a sleek curtain wall curtain wall

The glass allows the Paradigm's personality to "pop" between its commercial neighbors, but also creates a sense of harmony between the two styles, said Meltzer. Above the setback, the remaining floors' facade is EFIS EFIS Electronic Flight Instrument System

The Paradigm features 12 full-floor loft residences, with prices that run well over $2 million. The apartments range in size from 1,540 s/f to 2,579 s/f.

"Our goal was not to compete with, or recreate the commercial tone of the two abutting buildings," says Meltzer.

"Instead, we wanted the juxtaposition juxtaposition /jux·ta·po·si·tion/ (-pah-zish´un) apposition.
