Committee D-04 on Road and Paving Materials. The symposium will be held December 4 in Dallas, TX, in conjunction with the December 4-6 standards development meetings of Committee D-04.

Papers are solicited that address the following topic areas: construction variables that affect initial pavement pavement, the wearing surface of a road, street, or sidewalk. Parts of Babylon and Troy are believed to have been paved; Roman roads were noted for their durable stone paving. Cobblestones were common from late medieval times into the 19th cent.  smoothness; development and implementation of initial HMA (High Memory Area) In PCs, the first 64K of extended memory from 1024K to 1088K, which can be accessed by DOS. It is managed by the HIMEM.SYS driver. It was discovered by accident that this area could be used by DOS, even though it was beyond the traditional  smoothness specifications; relationship between initial HMA smoothness and pavement life; innovative technologies for evaluating HMA smoothness; use of profilometers for quality control and quality acceptance of HMA pavements; effect of HMA mix variables on smoothness; and contractor's use of profilers.

Prospective authors are requested to submit a title, a 250-300 word preliminary abstract and an ASTM paper submittal form by April 3 to Dorothy A. Fitzpatrick. Further information and forms are available from Fitzpatrick (610) 832-9677.
