ENERGY RESULTS SHOWCASE

A look at energy use in the pulp and paper industry The global pulp and paper industry is dominated by North American (United States, Canada), northern European (Finland, Sweden) and East Asian countries (such as Japan). Australasia and Latin America also have significant pulp and paper industries. .

MARCH 5-6

Energy is one of a mill's biggest cost centers, and reducing energy costs can lead to significant savings. During the TAPPI Energy Summit, mill representatives and engineering consulting firms will cover topics such as: a global and regional look at the energy market, the effect and status of deregulation Deregulation

The reduction or elimination of government power in a particular industry, usually enacted to create more competition within the industry.

Notes:
Traditional areas that have been deregulated are the telephone and airline industries.
, alternative energy resources, and energy procurement strategies in a deregulated market. Energy companies will present new products and technology on the exhibit floor and there will be a series of case studies from mills that have conducted recent energy surveys.

The Energy Management Forum is designed to focus on key, practical topics such as how companies can respond to volatile energy costs, the outlook for natural gas, alternate energy resources and regional electrical power availability, electrical deregulation, environmental issues, and more. Featuring the leading energy experts from around the world, the forum will include sessions on how legislation will impact energy prices, the challenges for paper industry producers and how they are responding, and how they can preserve ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). .

MARCH 5

8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Session I: Energy Regional Outlook (Presentations)

A discussion of the factors in supply, demand, fuel costs, and projects. Overall electricity and natural gas market and regional perspectives and outlook

Session II: Energy Market Deregulation

The problems in California had an impact that has been felt around the world. This crisis has altered the rate of deregulation. What next steps must be taken to achieve a truly competitive energy market and what is best for the paper industry?

Session III: Alternative Energy Resources

Alternative fuel types and their implications will be discussed. Speakers: Roundtable of representatives to discuss the merits and drawbacks of fossil and renewable power supplies for the industry.

Session IV: Energy Users Perspectives

An examination of energy procurement strategies for paper industry producers in a deregulated market

Workshops and presentations on a variety of energy-related topics will be held on the exhibit floor throughout the afternoon. Possible presenters include: WPS See Windows Printing System and Workplace Shell.
