Panalpina Chooses Descartes as a Preferred Provider of Global Air Cargo Messaging Services.
The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (NASDAQ:DSGX)(TSX:DSG), a leading provider of on-demand delivery management solutions and services for transportation, logistics, manufacturing, retail distribution and service provider enterprises, announced that Panalpina, one of the world's top freight transport and logistics companies, has chosen Descartes as a preferred provider of global air cargo messaging services.
Descartes' Global Logistics Network(TM) (GLN) helps Panalpina manage air cargo by linking Panalpina to more than 70 air carriers. Descartes Logiman(TM) and Descartes Messaging Quality Monitor(TM), two logistics messaging services available over the GLN, enable Panalpina to exchange shipment booking and status information with air carriers, monitor the status of those shipments, and analyze delivery performance by air carriers. With the help of these Descartes GLN services, Panalpina is able to improve its own customer service and operational efficiency by having accurate and current delivery status and air carrier performance information.
"Descartes' GLN offers us the ability to exchange logistics messages with more airlines than any other provider," said Peter Baumgartner, vice president, Panalpina Air Freight Division. "The GLN's robust air-specific messaging services are helping Panalpina be more efficient and reduce costs by substantially increasing the number of automatic shipment status updates received in Pantrace, the proprietary tracking system we offer our customers. More automatic updates means less manual information gathering, resulting in more accurate and timely information delivery to our customers. We can also send electronic air shipment information to many more air carriers through Descartes which, in turn, helps those air carriers improve their own delivery processes for the benefit of our customers."
"We are pleased to add Panalpina to the growing list of global freight-forwarders using the Global Logistics Network to communicate with transportation providers in various modes of transportation," said Edward Ryan, general manager of the Descartes GLN. "The information we collect for Panalpina helps them provide a better service to their customers and save money at the same time. We are proud to be a part of this successful initiative."
