PanAmSat's Galaxy Cable TV Neighborhood Becomes Home to Fox Sports International; Programmer Will Use a Full C-band Transponder for Distribution throughout the United States.

PanAmSat Corporation (NASDAQ: SPOT) today announced that Fox Sports International has joined the Galaxy(R) cable television neighborhood at 91 degrees west longitude, one of PanAmSat's four cable dedicated orbital locations. The programmer will initially utilize the Galaxy VII domestic U.S. satellite to distribute content to cable headends throughout the United States. The long-term agreement for a full C-band transponder calls for Fox Sports to migrate its service to Galaxy VII's replacement satellite next year, after that satellite commences services at 91 degrees west longitude.

Fox Sports International has leased one C-band transponder on the Galaxy VII satellite to distribute programming such as The Health Network-East, The Health Network-West, Fox Sports World, Fox Sports World Espanol and Fox Sports World Espanol, L.A. The agreement provides for long-term transmission services at 91 degrees west longitude. At that location, the programming will initially reside on Galaxy VII and then transition in late 2000 to its replacement satellite, currently anticipated to be Galaxy XI. Galaxy XI is scheduled for launch later this year to 99 degrees west longitude initially and then will be repositioned to 91 degrees west longitude after the Galaxy IV-R satellite is launched to 99 degrees west longitude next year.

Fox Sports International joins myriad other Fox programming located at 91 degrees west longitude, including Fox Sports Arizona, Fox Sports Detroit, Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports Net, Fox Sports News, Fox Sports Northwest, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Southwest, the Sunshine Network, fx East, fXM and fx West. Fox Sports International also utilizes international capacity on PanAmSat's PAS-2 Pacific Ocean Region, PAS-3 Atlantic Ocean Region and PAS-4 Indian Ocean Region satellites for worldwide distribution.

Galaxy VII, an HS 601 model satellite with 24 C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders, was launched on October 27, 1992 and is located at 91 degrees west longitude. That orbital location, together with the orbital locations of Galaxy I-R at 133 degrees west longitude, Galaxy V at 125 degrees west longitude and Galaxy IX at 123 degrees west longitude, forms the Galaxy cable neighborhood, the premier satellite video neighborhood for cable program distribution throughout the United States.

PanAmSat will expand the Galaxy cable neighborhood with the next year's launch of the Galaxy X-R satellite to 123 degrees west longitude, at which point Galaxy IX will be repositioned from 123 degrees west longitude to 127 degrees west longitude. At only two degrees west from Galaxy V, cable's top neighborhood, Galaxy IX will create a new prime cable orbital location, providing additional C-band cable distribution capacity to meet the increasing demand for cable program distribution throughout the United States. As a result, PanAmSat's Galaxy cable neighborhood will consist of five satellites in five orbital locations by late 2000.
