It is considered a suburb of Fort Worth and is located in the rapidly growing suburban expanse just south of the City. As of the 2006, the population was 30,300, up from 20,976 in 2000. , was destroyed by a fire on December 2, 2006. An investigation is underway to determine the origin of the fire.

Larry Keener, chairman and chief executive officer of Palm Harbor Homes, Inc., remarked, "We are very fortunate that this fire occurred on a week-end and no Palm Harbor employees were in the Burleson facility at the time of the incident. While the damage resulted in a total loss to the production facilities, there were no personal injuries sustained. To the extent possible, we intend to offer our Burleson employees positions at our other Texas plants. All of the production previously handled at Burleson will also move to other plants where we have the capacity to handle the additional work. We do not expect this to materially affect our current production schedules, and, more importantly, do not anticipate any long-term Long-term
