Pakistan earthquake.


Last October, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake rocked the region surrounding Kashmir, in northern Pakistan Northern Pakistan is the term used to refer to the high-altitude region in the northern part of Pakistan that includes 12 of the world's 27 highest mountains as well as three of the seven longest glaciers outside of the polar regions of the world. . Three major cities were completely destroyed: Muzaffarabad, Mansehra, Balakot and hundreds of villages are still unreachable by rescue teams. At the time of writing, the death toll stands at 86 000, with over 70 000 injured in·jure

Aid agencies have expressed concerns that the lack of treatment for those injured, combined with a shortage of water and sanitation facilities, will lead to increased fatalities. The US-based organisation Architecture For Humanity Architecture for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that seeks architectural solutions to humanitarian crises and brings design services to communities in need. It was founded in 1999 by Cameron Sinclair and Kate Stohr.  is seeking ideas for earthquake resistant housing schemes that will also help empower communities in the long-term reconstruction effort. Teams have until 20 January to devise appropriate proposals that utilise local materials and technology. Selected schemes will be developed in pictorial form and assembled into free manuals.
