CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Packeteer([R]) (NASDAQ:PKTR), the global leader in WAN application delivery, today announced that Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), a leading supplier of enterprise-class storage networking solutions, is using Mobiliti[TM] software to provide its mobile workforce with distributed file application access, data synchronization and automatic backups. Leveraging Mobiliti ensures the availability and accuracy of critically important corporate data, whether residing on user laptops or on the company's servers. Mobiliti also synchronizes and backs up changes to Microsoft([R]) Outlook([R]) files over the WAN to improve the integrity of all Emulex email communications and achieve applicable regulatory compliance.

Emulex Corporation has teams of engineering, sales and support personnel around the world. A significant number of its employees travel regularly, which presents a number of IT challenges, including continuous access to files on remote servers and automatic back ups for files stored on user laptops.

Mobiliti has five key features that are critical to Emulex. Topping the list is Mail Harmony, which provides automatic and efficient Outlook PST file backup and synchronization via the WAN. A separate Laptop Backup feature automatically backs up other critical files stored on user laptops, including ones that are open and in use, with WAN-efficient compression and differencing techniques. The Virtual Network Access feature replicates the network structure of the enterprise LAN on user laptops, creating a virtual network view and fast local access to data even when users are disconnected. Adaptive File Differencing dynamically reduces network traffic and synchronization time. Finally, International Language Support automatically detects locale and customizes the user interface for English, Chinese, French, German, Japanese or Spanish.

Emulex is in the process of rolling out Mobiliti to its entire mobile workforce -- comprised of hundreds of users -- beginning with the "power users" who travel the most frequently. The server side of Mobiliti software is also installed on all of the company's Windows([R]) servers, where it automatically decrypts files stored securely on user laptops with Microsoft's Encrypted File System (EFS). "With Mobiliti, we are able to take total control over the synchronization and backup of all data from mobile users enterprise-wide," Lissner claims. "Plus, Mobiliti is virtually transparent to our users, and easy to deploy, configure and support centrally. To simplify our Mobiliti roll-out, we created a 'cookbook' for adding new users, complete with a script that installs and configures the software accurately and automatically. It's been flawless."
