Pacific Rim Mining Corp.: Drilling Commenced at Leticia.VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1997-- PACIFIC RIM Pacific Rim, term used to describe the nations bordering the Pacific Ocean and the island countries situated in it. In the post–World War II era, the Pacific Rim has become an increasingly important and interconnected economic region. (VSE See DOS/VSE. Pacific Rim Mining Corp. is pleased to announce that the execution of the formal joint venture contract with Miranda Industries has been completed, and drilling on the Leticia property in Guerrero, Mexico is now underway. Leticia lies on the same intrusive complex that hosts the 7 million ounce Nukay gold resource, and the 2 million ounce Bermejal gold resource. Leticia's geological and geophysical signature is very similar to that of Nukay. Pacific Rim is the operator in the joint venture which, in addition to Leticia, includes the Jossie and Jossie II concessions to the east. Pacific Rim must advance the project to positive feasibility to earn a 51 percent interest. The drill program will consist of a minimum of 3000 metres in 18 reverse circulation drill holes, with one rig operating on a 12 hour shift. The program will test three targets: a) The skarn skarn In geology, a metamorphic zone developed in the contact area around igneous rock intrusions when carbonate sedimentary rocks are invaded by and replaced with chemical elements that originate from the igneous rock mass nearby. that forms at the intrusive contact with limestone. Contact skarns often host higher grade mineralization Mineralization The process by which the body uses minerals to build bone structure. Mentioned in: Rickets mineralization, n the bioprecipitation of an inorganic substance. at Nukay and Bermejal. This target, which wraps around the 1.4 kilometre contact coincides with a strong magnetic anomaly Magnetic Anomaly may refer to:
b) A 100 to 200 metre wide, northwest trending fault zone, with stockwork mineralization similar to the Las Filas Zone, the gold deposit at which hosts the majority of the Nukay ounces. This target coincides with a northwest trending gold anomaly that averages 200 parts per billion in soils, over an area measuring 450 metres long by 100 to 200 metres wide. The road cut which averaged 4.32 grams per tonne gold over 43 metres cuts through part of this 100 metre wide zone. c) The uppermost part of the Morelos Formation forms a distal skarn which is largely covered by hornfels horn·fels n. pl. hornfels A fine-grained metamorphic rock composed of quartz, feldspar, mica, and other minerals, formed by the action of intrusive rock upon sedimentary rock, especially shale. , an impermeable impermeable /im·per·me·a·ble/ (-per´me-ah-b'l) not permitting passage, as of fluid. im·per·me·a·ble adj. Impossible to permeate; not permitting passage. rock unit. Where the Morelos formation is exposed, it contains gold mineralization in excess of 0.5 grams per tonne.
