Pacific Life Foundation Distributes over $3.5 Million in Annual Grants at a Reception to Benefit the Community.


$4.2 Million Committed for 2007

NEWPORT BEACH Newport Beach, residential and resort city (1990 pop. 66,643), Orange co., S Calif., on Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1906. It is a popular seaside resort and yachting center.  agencies primarily serving Orange County, CA, gathered at an afternoon reception held at Pacific Life's headquarters in Newport Beach. The agencies received grants ranging from $2,500 to $133,000. The Pacific Life Foundation distributed over $3.5 million at the event and has committed to spend a total of $4.2 million for 2007.

"Since 1993, we have made a special effort every year to gather together diverse non-profit agencies and honor them for the service and work they provide in our communities," said Robert G. Haskell, president of the Pacific Life Foundation. "The reception is not only a great opportunity for the Foundation to interact with those receiving our grants, but it also provides an atmosphere in which nonprofit leaders can interact with their peers."

In attendance at the celebratory event were nonprofit agencies focused on the areas of arts and culture; civic, community, and environment; education; and health and human services Noun 1. The majority of the grants range from $2,500 to $10,000; however, 19 agencies received grants greater than $10,000. The grants include:

* A $133,000 grant that completed the Foundation's pledge of $366,000 to Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, a pediatric pediatric /pe·di·at·ric/ (pe?de-at´rik) pertaining to the health of children.

 dental center in Garden Grove Garden Grove, city (1990 pop. 143,050), Orange co., S Calif., a suburb of Long Beach and Los Angeles, on the Santa Ana River; founded 1877, inc. 1956. Many of its residents work in nearby aerospace and defense installations, and there is light manufacturing.  that serves uninsured children from low-income families. Included with this program is the purchase of a van, a mobile dental clinic, and funding for school-based dental services.

* A $100,000 grant was committed to AccessOC, a new program whose goal is to mobilize mo·bi·lize

 a network of medical volunteers, hospitals, and referring community clinics in Orange County to provide the uninsured with donated surgical outpatient procedures that significantly improve their health, ability to work, and quality of life. This grant is part of a $350,000 pledge which will be completed in 2010.

* A grant of $50,000 (towards a $100,000 pledge) was awarded to the Discovery Science Center Discovery Science Center is a learning complex with more than 100 hands-on science exhibits designed to spark children's natural curiosity.

The Pacific Life Foundation was established in 1984. Together with Pacific Life, the Foundation has contributed donations totaling over $41 million to hundreds of nonprofits over the past 22 years. The Foundation's current endowment is approximately $62 million.
