PacifiCare of Arizona Signs Deal with Scottsdale Healthcare; Scottsdale Osborn and Shea to Join PacifiCare's Metro Network.

PacifiCare of Arizona, a subsidiary of PacifiCare Health Systems PacifiCare Health Systems (former NYSE: PHS) was a Fortune 500 healthcare company based in Cypress, California. It was acquired by UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) in late 2005, which continues to market health plans under the PacifiCare name.  Inc. (Nasdaq: PHSY PHSY PacifiCare Health Systems, Inc ) announced it has reached an agreement with Scottsdale Healthcare, the parent company of Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn and Shea hospitals, to continue to provide care for PacifiCare and Secure Horizons members through 2002.

The agreement took effect Sept. 1, 2001 and covers more than 15,000 PacifiCare and Secure Horizons members currently enrolled in PacifiCare's Scottsdale network.

Also effective Sept. 1, Scottsdale Osborn and Shea hospitals joined PacifiCare's Metro network. PacifiCare's Metro network provides former Scottsdale network members with a significantly expanded listing of primary care physicians (an increase of 385 percent) and specialists (an increase of 375 percent) and no longer limits members to a single network hospital.

PacifiCare members and their physicians have the choice of using any of the 11 Metro network hospitals located throughout the Valley.

PacifiCare is also aggressively pursuing individual contracts with physicians impacted by the closure of the Scottsdale Physician Hospital Organization (SPHO SPHO Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization ). Individual contracting should be concluded by the end of September. , PacifiCare will remain contracted with all SPHO physicians through Sept. 30, 2001. PacifiCare has already contracted with more than 50 percent of SPHO physicians.

PacifiCare has been one of Arizona's fastest growing health plans in 2001. Since 2000, PacifiCare's commercial membership has grown more than 56 percent, totaling more than 139,000 commercial members and 110,000 Medicare+Choice members currently in the state. In July, PacifiCare recorded its highest number of new Arizona enrollees (14,000) in the company's 15-year history.
