Pace and Viaccess Enter into Licence Agreement.

SHIPLEY, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2003

Pace Micro Technology has today signed a new licence agreement with Viaccess to utilise their latest conditional access Conditional Access (acronymized CA) is the protection of content by requiring certain criteria to be met before granting access to this content. The term is commonly used in relation to digital television systems, most notably satellite television.  (CA) technology in Pace home gateways (set-top boxes). The agreement will enable Pace to take advantage of Viaccess' enhanced conditional access security in digital television markets worldwide.

Pace's new agreement with Viaccess builds on a long-term relationship that spans more than three years, which Pace took-on though an acquisition in January 2000. The Viaccess CA on which the agreement is based enables payTV operators to provide subscription services, pay-per-view and selective viewing services. Initial work on this platform will see Pace rolling out Viaccess-based satellite home gateways in the European retail market from early-summer onwards.

The first of Pace's new Viaccess products comprise Pace's MPEG-2 and DVB-compliant CDTV (Commodore Dynamic Total Vision) An earlier multimedia and video game technology from Commodore that also played audio CDs. It was superseded by the CD32 system.
