Pabst premieres a malt liquor "draft." (Pabst Brewing Co.)

Detroit's Pabst Brewing Co. recently announced the introduction of Old English 800 Draft, the malt liquor category's first "draft-style" product, according to the brewer.

Lutz Issleib, Pabst chairman, reported the brew will be made immediately available to all 50 states in both bottles and cans. Issleib added O.E. 800 Drafts has "full malt liquor flavor and body as well as the same high quality as the award winning O.E. 800."

The product is packaged using cold-filtration instead of heat pasterurization, and for this reason, Issleib expects O.E. 800 Draft to become and important brand extension for the already successful line. Last year, 1.7 million barrels of O.E. 800 were shipped, and brewery forecasters foresee shipments of 200,000 barrels of the draft brand in its first year.
