Pabst claims lead in malt liquor race.

Pabst Brewing Co. chairman and president Lutz Issleib reported that Old English 800 Malt Liquor has moved into the top malt liquor sales position in the country.

Issleib reported sales of 1.7 million barrels of Old English, with "strong double-digit increases in 24 market areas and triple digit numbers in 13 other markets."

The president and CEO credited the "strength and determination of Pabst wholesalers to take advantage of market conditions to move Old English 800 ahead in the profitable malt liquor category. Issleib added he expect the brand to grow by another 25 percent this year.
