PYRAMID FOUNTAIN SET TO GRACE COUNTY FAIR.

The Mayans built some nifty pyramids, but they never thought of turning the steps into a waterfall powered by a Jacuzzi pump.

Leave it to the enterprising folks at the Los Angeles County Fair The Los Angeles County Fair (also called simply the L.A. County Fair) is an annual event held in the Fairplex in Pomona, California, held every September. It is a carnival with rides, merchants, food vendors, cooking contests, and livestock. The 2007 L.A. , who built an indoor 40-foot-high pyramid as the Flower and Garden Pavilion's centerpiece.

The Flower and Garden Pavilion has proved to be one of the most popular attractions at the fair, which will open Thursday and will end Sept. 26.

``We'll get at least 70 percent of the fairgoers through here. Not everyone there is a garden lover. Feel this breeze?'' Blythe said, spreading his arms. ``It's a nice cool place to get in out of the heat.''

Inside the graceful building, the real eye-catcher might not be flowers at all, but the Mayan pyramid built by John Chartier, the exhibit's horticulturist and construction manager.

Rather than stone blocks, Chartier used two-by-fours.

Carvings and figures of cavorting monkeys are made of foam.
