 PYRAMID ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM;
 PROGRAM INCLUDES TECHNOLOGY, PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
 SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology Corp. (NASDAQ: PYRD) will introduce at the UniForum trade show (Booth No. 2631) "Availability Assurance(TM)," a comprehensive program of products, services and expertise designed to support the delivery of data and applications to the users involved in business critical, on-line applications. The program is an outgrowth of Pyramid's experience in supporting the largest database installations for all the major UNIX(R) database suppliers, with its MIServer(TM) line of high availability transaction servers. In addition to the need for a very high transaction rate and the system architecture to deliver transactions over a distributed client-server environment, customers have very demanding system availability requirements. In environments where systems are used to run the business, the requirement for very high system availability is rapidly becoming a primary concern. The cost to a company of not having access to these applications is of equal importance to the cost benefit offered by open systems.
 Pyramid is committed to supplying not only leading price/performance servers for large-scale database applications, but also systems designed to meet high availability requirements in the broadest sense -- incorporating fault management capabilities, advanced back-up technology, data center administration, high- performance system architecture and advanced database performance features. As part of Pyramid's Availability Assurance program, Pyramid is announcing and demonstrating a collection of products, capabilities and partnerships focused on providing the system availability that customers require to run critical on-line business applications. In keeping with the company's leadership position in supporting very large databases and user communities Pyramid is making the following announcements. Availability Assurance From Pyramid Pyramid FastTRAC/Database Express Backup
 Pyramid FastTRAC(TM) is a breakthrough technology for large UNIX systems, enabling up to eight tape drives to simultaneously back up large databases. This new software product can improve system backup time up to eightfold, thereby breaking the backup backlog which has been an historic stumbling block for users who are considering downsizing from more expensive proprietary mainframes to large, flexible open systems servers.
 Developed by the Pyramid Database Division, Database Express Backup(TM) is a product which signifies a new level of system administration automation, data integrity, system availability and speed of database backup. When implemented in conjunction with Pyramid FastTrac, Database Express Backup not only significantly improves database backup times, but also assures a much higher level of system administration control, with fewer errors and greater system availability. The Oracle Parallel Server RDBMS
 At UniForum, Pyramid and Oracle Corp. will demonstrate the first UNIX System V Release 4 (SVR4) implementation of the ORACLE Parallel Server(TM) RDBMS on the MIServer S Series high-availability transaction server. The combined technologies allow users running applications on multiple Pyramid MIServers to access a single shared ORACLE(R) database. This capability now enables clusters of MIServers to support very large user communities that could previously only be served by mainframes. The demonstration at UniForum is the result of a tightly knit cooperative engineering effort among the two companies. Together the companies have designed a series of features, including a fault tolerant distributed lock manager, to assure the high availability necessary to support mission-critical, enterprise-wide applications. Reliant NetWare
 Pyramid is presenting the industry's first UNIX-based, high availability server for Novell Inc.'s NetWare(TM) on the MIServer and MIServer Reliant(TM) Series. One of the first UNIX systems vendors to offer NetWare, Pyramid has combined the ease-of-use and application- rich environment of personal computers with the database processing capabilities, network and system management tools, and high availability of an open systems mainframe environment.
 With NetWare running on the MIServer Reliant, Pyramid provides a fault resilient, dual-server environment. Based on Pyramid's MIServer T Series, the Reliant Series provides continued computing through system-level redundancies in a configuration of two systems in concurrent operation. In the event of a failure on either system, the alternate live system will immediately take over the responsibilities and resources for the failed system's applications and, in less than three minutes, it can support the full user community with no loss of committed data. Pyramid's Reliant approach gives NetWare users the full processing power of two servers during normal operation, while assuring system availability and data integrity in the event of a critical system failure.
 PYRAMID SUPPORTS THE LARGEST UNIX DATABASES
 Pyramid focuses on developing systems, products and services to support very large UNIX-based commercial databases. Over the last several years Pyramid's leadership in this area has been validated in that some of the largest UNIX databases in the world run on Pyramid systems. Pyramid has been able to achieve this leadership position by working closely with all the major UNIX database vendors, including ASK/Ingres, Informix, Oracle, Sybase, Unify and Progress. Storage Technology Corporation
 Storage Technology Corp. is now offering the Nearline(R) 4400 automated tape cartridge storage system for use with the MIServer. An excellent alternative to expensive disk archival, Nearline automates on-line IBM-compatible 3480 tape cartridges for Pyramid MIServers, providing the economy of tape archival without the accompanying high cost in labor. Company Background
 Founded in 1981 and based in Mountain View, Calif., Pyramid Technology builds and markets the MIServer line of high-performance, high-availability transaction servers to the open commercial marketplace. Pyramid's systems are based on a symmetric multiprocessor architecture that combines an enhanced UNIX operating system with reduced instruction set computing (RISC) technology. Pyramid MIServers offer from 10 to 300 MIPS, delivering over 400 transactions-per-second, and can effectively support over 1,000 concurrent users.
