PWC trade fair celebrates city's construction boom.Professional Women in Construction (PWC), which has hosted hugely successful Trade Fairs each year since 1990, presented another blockbuster event, "New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. PWC president Lenore Janis said that the organization selected the large downtown exhibit space because, "The rebuilding process has already started in lower Manhattan where projects have been estimated at over $21 billion by 2015. "Midtown, uptown and in the boroughs, we're also seeing a boom in commercial, retail and residential work. The trade fair reflects this expanding activity." Guests of honor Carole Sobin, vice president of purchasing with Con Edison, and Joy P. Crichlow, the company's director of supplier diversity, welcomed all. Crichlow noted, "Con Edison is committed to making sure that more qualified minorities, Asian Americans and women are included in all phases of its construction program." Also reaching out to small and mid-sized companies with its ambitious $13 billion, five-year plan was guest of honor Sharon Greenberger, first woman president of the NYC NYC abbr. I encourage you to participate," she said. The event drew rave reviews from guests and exhibitors alike. Angela Billinghurst, project manager with Tishman Construction Corporation of New York, came to outreach to new companies. She said, "The PWC Trade Fair helps us build relationships with the small business owners; PWC provides a perfect setting." Turner Construction's Jackie Horowitz, a project manager, said "It's a venue to bring new partners to us--subcontractors, consultants, engineers. It offers a fresh outlook of new enterprises."
