PWC's salute to women of achievement draws crowd.

On Wednesday, May 10, 2006, Professional Women in Construction's (PWC) annual Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon drew an overflowing crowd to the Grand Ballroom of The Yale Club The Yale Club may be:

to applaud the accomplishments made by women in fields that were traditionally "for men only": real estate development, facilities management and construction.

PWC Executive Vice President Theresa Vigilante vigilante n. someone who takes the law into his/her own hands by trying and/or punishing another person without any legal authority. In the 1800s groups of vigilantes dispensed "frontier justice" by holding trials of accused horse-thieves, rustlers and shooters, and  paid tribute to "all the women in the room," pointing out that PWC has supported their efforts for over 25 years, and expressing her wish that there was room at the podium "for every one of you to take a bow Verb 1. take a bow - acknowledge praise or accept credit; "They finally took a bow for what they did"
accept - consider or hold as true; "I cannot accept the dogma of this church"; "accept an argument"

Lancaster introduced a member of this "new" generation, honoree Flora Ramos, project manager with Tishman Construction Corporation. Ramos is currently on Tishman's team for the new 7 World Trade Center and the Goldman Sachs World Headquarters, working to meet M/WBE M/WBE Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprises  goals and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. ) certification requirements. Ramos said that "being part of the rebuilding of such significant projects is certainly an honor," and proclaimed her love for and commitment to the Big Apple. Former PWC honoree, Marylou Berk, chief administration officer, Americas, with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, introduced Joseph Moinian, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Victoria Sta. Iglesia, P.E., president and CEO of Accu-Cost Construction Consultants, and one of the honorees at last year's Salute, introduced honoree Dolly Williams, CEO and owner of A. Williams Construction Company.

Sta. Iglesia pointed out Williams' "keen sense of ... planning and development," then cheered the entrepreneur for "giving back to the City." Williams proclaimed her "love of the construction business," a passion which compelled her to continue to strive despite the great obstacles presented 27 years ago. "I think challenges are designed for women," said Williams, who accepted "with honor, dignity and pride" on behalf of her family--particularly her mother and grandmother--and for all women "accepting challenges today."
