Plenlizer ST-210 polyol ester costabilizer for PVC resins used in conjunction with zinc stabilizer for improved heat stability and weatherability.

AKCROS CHEMICALS AMERICA

Metallic-based Akcrostab, Interstab, and Interlite stabilizers formulated for calendering, extrusion, blow molding, injection molding, and various plastisol operations.

Barium/cadmium/zinc stabilizers for general-purpose flexible and specialty PVC applications reportedly provide exceptional initial color, as well as excellent heat and light stability. Also superior air-release and dry-blending characteristics and resistance to viscosity buildup and plateout. Available in solid and liquid forms.

A noncadmium-containing series of Akcrostab products for a wide range of processing and product-use requirements are liquid barium-zinc-phosphite and calciuni-zine-phosphite complexes that impart exceptional thermal and dynamic stability.

Akcrostab organotin stabilizers for rigid PVC reportedly offer excellent long-term heat stability and early color control, plus improved processing. Available in liquid or solid form, either mercaptide or sulfur-free, products include butyltins for pipe, siding, window profiles and other applications; as well as octyltin mercaptide and methyltin mercaptides for FDA bottles and sheet.

Nontoxic calcium and zinc stabilizers for food-contact PVC, for rigid or flexible compounds, available in solids, pastes and liquids.

Organophosphite auxiliary stabilizers for FDA-approved and general-purpose uses include improved early-color control and long-term stability.

Interlite line of stabilizers designed primarily to replace lead stabilizers used in wire and cable, window profiles, and water pipes. (See ad p. 243.)

ATOFINA CHEMICALS INC.

Organotin stabilizers offered for rigid PVC. Thermolite 175, 175C, 310 and 310C are liquid organic stabilizers. Thermolite System 4 is a multifunctional stabilizer-lubricant for PVC pipe extrusion. Thermolite 176, based on tin technology, is a part-for-part replacement for Thermolite 175C and Thermolite 310C. Superior cost/performance, color hold, and odor are among Thermolite 176's reported advantages.

Thermolite T-133 and T-137 for injection molding; T-137, T-34, and T-31 Super for siding and profiles; and Thermolite T-149 for foam profiles. Thermolite 31 is used in every process (profile, sheet, pipe), as well as any PVC or CPVC polymer or copolymer.

For rigid PVC containers and extruded sheet, Thermolite 31, 66 and 108 are recommended depending on formulation and equipment variables. General-purpose bottle stabilizers with improved cost/performance are in development.

Thermolite 350 and other customized organotin maleate stabilizers for calendered rigid PVC film/sheet where resistance to sulfide staining is required. Tin mercaptides available for products not requiring sulfide stain protection.

Radiation and heat stabilizers for PVC medical devices and packaging are said to offer resistance to color degradation and loss of physical properties upon exposure to gamma irradiation

Thermolite 831 and 813 octyltins are major stabilizers for use in food-grade bottle and sheet applications. Also octyltins based on a mono-octyltin derivative and FDA-approved.

BAIRLOCHER USA

PVC heat stabilizers feature mixed-metal stabilizers (barium/cadmium, barium/zinc, calcium/zinc, noncadmium, and lead replacements) used primarily in flexible vinyl applications; lead stabilizers used predominantly for wire and cable; and tin stabilizers primarily for rigid PVC. Available in liquids and solids. (See ad p. 345.)

CARDINAL STABILIZERS INC.

Low-cost, liquid organotin stabilizers for PVC include CC-7711, CC-7711A and CC-7712 for rigid pipe and profiles that reportedly show excellent cost-performance; CC-101-110 and CC-101FC for injection molding with reportedly superior cost-performance and excellent color hold; CC-1015M for siding and window profiles; and CC-11, particularly recommended for high-gloss sheet extrusion. For general-purpose rigid PVC bottles and containers, CC-400 series is recommended; and CC-100 series for nonsulfuric-containing products. CC-800 series recommended for food-grade applications.

COGNIS CORP.

Stabiol calcium/zinc heat stabilizers suitable for PVC rigid containers intended for food-contact applications. Also available for flexible and rigid PVC extrusion.

CROMPTON CORP. POLYMER ADDITIVES

Mark vinyl stabilizers include solid and liquid mixed-metal types for clear and pigmented, flexible and semi-rigid PVC, and for plastisols, organosols, and vinyls.

Organotins include butyls, methyls and octyls, solids and liquids, sulfur and nonsulfur types for both high-impact and unmodified rigid compounds including weather-resistant systems. Materials used in bottles, water pipe, fittings, siding, rigid foam and window profiles.

FDA-regulated stabilizers include octyltins, methyltins, calcium/zincs and phosphites for food-wrap films, beverage bottles and vacuum-formed sheet. Phosphites offered as auxiliary stabilizers with mixed-metal systems.

DOVER CHEMICAL CORP.

Doverphos liquid and solid organophosphites used as heat stabilizers for PVC, ABS, and polyolefins.

EAGLE-PICKER INDUSTRIES INC.

EPIstatic and Epithal lead stabilizers for PVC include tribasic lead sulfate, basic lead silico-sulfate, and dibasic lead phthalate. Available with organophilic surface modification to improve dispersion and reduce energy requirements during processing. Also nondusting grades.

Products used as primary stabilizers in both rigid and flexible PVC and in PVC foams.

FERRO CORP., POLYMER ADDITIVES

Therm-Chek mixed-metal liquid, powder or paste heat stabilizers for rigid and flexible PVC applications and processes.

Specialty Therm-Chek organotin stabilizers offered for PVC, ABS/PVC, and other polymer blend applications.

For rigid PVC pipe, antimony mercaptides are said to have an economic advantage over tins. Also high-efficiency barium/cadmium powders with improved early color for outdoor use; organotins for general-purpose bottles; and nontoxic calcium/zinc and calcium/stannous/zinc powders and pastes for food-contact use. Also dispersions of lead, barium, cadmium, tin, and zinc-based compounds as concentrates or as pumpable pastes for automatic metering.

Lead-free heat stabilizers for PVC wire and cable jacketing and insulation are barium-zinc powders and direct replacements for most lead-based stabilizers. (See ads pp. 327, Cover IV.)

Lead stabilizers for PVC include lead sulfates, phthalates, carbonates and co-precipitate complex types--all in lubricated and nonlubricated forms. Used for wire and cable, rigid and flexible profiles, conduit, nonpotable pipe, foam, rigid and flexible sheet, moldings, plastisols, organosols and weather-resistant applications.

Organotin heat stabilizers for rigid PVC include Advastab TM-181 high-performance tin stabilizer for siding, profiles, injection and blow molding; TM-694 tin stabilizer for pipe; TM-280SP series for profile; TM-2811M for injection molding; and TM-948 for general-purpose bottles.

Advastab TM-2080 high-performance, FDA-approved stabilizer for rigid PVC in food-contact applications. Advapak LS-203 "one-pack" multifunctional lubricating stabilizer recommended for high-output PVC pipe production on twin-screw extruders. Advapak ML-2516, ML-1325, and ML-3000 lubricant packages for pipe, injection molding, and siding applications, respectively.

Advastab TM-404 methyltin heat stabilizer for clear rigid PVC food packaging offers less odor and better early and midrange color hold.

OMG AMERICAS

PlastiStab line of mixed-metal, liquid and powder stabilizers for flexible PVC, including solvent-free liquid stabilizers that allow low emissions and are suitable for automotive, low-flame spread, and plastisol coating applications.

Products include proprietary calciumzinc and barium-zinc stabilizers, many FDA-sanctioned. Also low-odor tin carboxylates.

PQ CORP.

Advera aluminosilicate heat stabilizers for PVC and other halogenated systems neutralize acid formation that leads to degradation of physical properties and off-color. It improves processing performance of rigid and flexible PVC by acting as a synergist with standard mixed metal and tin stabilizers.

REHEIS INC.

L-55RII co-dried aluminum-magnesium hydroxycarbonate improved synthetic hydrotalcite has proven effective in neutralizing residual acidity in various synthetic polymers by anion exchange because of its lattice-layer structure. A finely divided, free-flowing odorless powder, it is coated with tallow or food-grade vegetable-based (palm) sodium stearate.

L-55RII exhibits five to six times greater acid neutralizing capacity than calcium stearate and can be used in the manufacture of polyolefins such as PP and PE, engineering plastics such as ABS, PVC additive packages, halogen-containing flame-retardant compositions, and pigment/color concentrates. Acid neutralizing capacity is 21-23 mEq of acid consumed per gram.

SHEPHERD CHEMICAL CO.

Cerium octoate (2-ethylhexanoate) for PVC, silicone rubber, and other polymers.

ZINC CORP. OF AMERICA

Zinstabe zinc-based foam activator/stabilizers in powdered form for calendered PVC and plastisol foams. Said to combine heat and uv stabilization with catalytic activation of chemical blowing agents such as azodicarbonamide. Zinstabes control rate of cell formation, provide over-blow protection, contain no heavy metals, not prone to sulfide staining.
