The award was presented to the Photovoltaic Equipment Interface Specification (PV-EIS) Task Force for their work on the PV2 standard by the CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. According to Carlos Lee from SEMI Europe PV Group, this is the first time that the SEMI Europe Standards Merit Award has been presented to an entire team since the award was established in 2001.

The PV-EIS task force was formed in September 2007 with the purpose of defining and unifying the interface between the Photovoltaic (PV) equipment and the Manufacturing Execution System

Manufacturing execution system (MES) describes a set of integrated functions within a packaged software system or it can also describe the accumulated functionality within the production management infrastructure of a manufacturing or production company.

An MES integrates the data with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems so that management has complete control of ). Members of the task force included representation from PV manufacturers, equipment suppliers, third-party software providers, and research institutes.

Cimetrix representatives Brian Rubow and Bruce Febvret have served on the task force since its inception and were amongst those who contributed to the development of the SEMI PV2 Guide for PV Equipment Communication Interfaces (PVECI).
