Nonsubscription events include an Aug. 25 recital by pianist and ``Shine'' subject David Helfgott (yes, he'll perform the ``Rach 3''); a musical tribute to Ella Fitzgerald (June 29), with appearances by Melissa Manchester, Dianne Reeves, Vic Damone and others; a July 2 salute to music from China, to be broadcast via satellite to 1 billion viewers in China and Hong Kong; and the traditional Independence Day concert with Nashville diva Trisha Yearwood joining the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra onstage, as red, white and blue rockets glare overhead (July 3-5). And there's a bonus for West Valley audiences this year: Shuttle bus service to the Bowl will be operating out of Chatsworth Metrolink Station at 21510 Devonshire St. The Valley also is served by a BowlExpress Park & Ride pickup spot in Sherman Oaks.)
