PUSH TECHNOLOGY TO HIGHLIGHT SHOW : EXHIBITORS SHOW AND TELL.

Byline: P.J. Huffstutter Daily News Staff Writer

The key phrase at this year's Spring Internet World will be push, push, push.

Thousands of computer fans and professionals are expected to flock to the Los Angeles Convention Center The Los Angeles Convention Center (abbreviated LACC) is a convention center in downtown Los Angeles. The LACC hosts annual events such as the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, and was best known to video games fans as host to E3 until its cessation in 2006.  downtown today through Friday.

Some will hear speeches from some of the industry's top executives, such as Apple Computer Chairman Gilbert Amelio and Marc Andreessen (person) Marc Andreessen - The man who founded Netscape Communications Corporation in April 1994 with Dr. James H. But the one concept sure to draw the most attention at this year's show is the emergence of push technology - the method of sending tailored information directly to a computer desktop so users don't have to go on line to search for what they need.

Microsoft hopes to release a test copy of its Internet Explorer Microsoft's Web browser, which comes with Windows starting with Windows 98. Commonly called "IE," versions for Mac and Unix are also available. Internet Explorer is the most widely used Web browser on the market. It has also been the browser engine in AOL's Internet access software.  4.0 this month. The new version of the Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. Netscape Communication Corp. announced this week its plans for a similar program that targets corporations' in-house networks, known as intranets. Mountain View-based Netscape's new software will incorporate push technology in its focus on ``extranets,'' or private Internet connections between companies.

Likewise, Cupertino-based PointCast Inc. will unveil a Macintosh version of its products. PointCast, the industry leader of push technology, launched a product more than a year ago that enables computer users to receive channels of news, sports and other news information directly on their computer.

FirstFloor Technologies Inc., maker of the off-line browser Smart Bookmarks, will present its Smart Notification Server. This push product will allow Web sites to notify computer users of any updates.

America Online will show Casablanca, a new version of its information service that uses push technology.

Throughout the day, the software automatically dials into AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  and downloads previously requested data to a subscriber's computer. The software is expected to be available by summer.

In other arenas, Macromedia will show an updated version of its Director 6, a software-building program that allows Web designer to incorporate streaming video snippets that can be viewed as images download.

AT&T will announce a series of new partnerships, including one relationship with an as-yet-unnamed financial firm to use AT&T's EasyCommerce Services.

And the corporate world will have more options when it comes to selecting an Internet service provider Internet service provider (ISP)

Company that provides Internet connections and services to individuals and organizations. For a monthly fee, ISPs provide computer users with a connection to their site (see data transmission), as well as a log-in name and password.
. Both MCI Communications Corp. and UUNet Technologies will announce Web hosting capacities around the world.
